Qik has launched a new application that will allow its users to stream video live from their cell phones to the Web without the hassle of uploading.
The software enables its users to share anything with anyone at anytime creating two way communications with video, to chat in real time to the device’s screen while the video is being broadcast.
The Qik Web page has its own social networking capabilities, including a self-serve events page, top ‘qikkers’, hot qiks and qik groups, as it tries to create a community out of its users.
Users can set their Qik profile to stream their videos to the Qik site or to the social networking sites of their choice. According to the company, more than 60 per cent of videos from Qik are shared by users on other sites like Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Orkut and other sites.
The Qik service is one more in a growing number that is making it easy for users to capture and stream videos from their phones to their favorite blogs or websites with speed and ease.
“The quality and simplicity of Qik’s service is admirable, and chatting with friends while streaming live video is just plain cool. It is so simple that even the Vatican is using it,” said Carla Thompson, senior analyst with the Guidewire Group in a news release. “Qik brings a new dimension to enabling the next generation of communication and community building.”
Qik currently supports video streaming on numerous phones including Nokia S60 phones, Blackberry Bold and Pearl and several other phones running Windows Mobile. The company plans to add new phones as its software enables it.
