In honour of American Thanksgiving weekend, snoo.ws is happy to post this YouTube video from Before and After TV showing the secrets of making the best cranberry sauce (their claim, not ours, though it does look yummy) for the holidays. We do this as a public service to encourage people to not use that canned gelatinous stuff.

UGC gaming for a post-nuclear world

Bethesda Softworks, creator of recently released nuclear war game Fallout 3 has announced plans to let users access both the editor and downloadable content for the game.

Fallout 3’s official editor, G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit) will be available for free download in December and will allow Games for Windows users to create, modify and edit data for the game from building landscapes and towns to writing dialogue and creating characters. (more…)

If Charles Dickens’ Ebenezer Scrooge character could be here for the doom and gloom that the pending recession has pulled over the holiday season and spending, he would be giggling like a Miley Cyrus-aged school girl in delight.

Conflicting trends in social media usage

Are corporations looking to spend more on social media or less? Plenty of brands are still sitting on the sidelines looking in at social networking sites and user-generated content, but how many are going to start investing in it as part of their marketing strategies?

Two recent surveys give conflicting answers. First up is the rosy view of the third annual Online Customer Engagement Report, produced by online publisher E-consultancy and digital agency cScape, which took a look at how a degenerating economy will affect customer behaviour and psychology. It says that more businesses are going to invest in social media as a way to focus on customer engagement, though fewer than half said they actually had a strategy to do so. (more…)

New MyCineplex launches with UGC community

Cineplex, Canada’s largest motion picture exhibitor, has relaunched its website with a significant user-generated content upgrade.

Launched this fall, My.Cineplex.com enables users to post their own videos, photos and text, as well as comment on movies, stories, movie reviews and just about anything else.

The new membership-based site will build a social community around the movies. This is a natural extension for Cineplex, especially with its large audience of teens and young adults. (more…)

King and Mochi Media partner with games

Online social gaming company King has partnered with Mochi Media, an online games network, to provide website publishers new ways to generate revenue through online games and access the thousands of games in the companies’ newly combined portfolios.

“The casual gaming industry has become an increasingly valuable space, as publishers and advertisers are recognizing the popularity and widespread appeal of online casual games,” said Riccardo Zacconi, the CEO of King in a news release. (more…)

Dailymotion gets an upgrade

Dailymotion, a popular video sharing site, has launched a new video player, Dailymotion HQ, to provide better quality playback.

The company says the new player allows viewers to experience all of Dailymotion’s video content from professional video to user-generated content in up to 30 frames per second, creating a sharper, smoother video stream on all Dailymotion videos. (more…)

Tim Horton’s wants to hear your story

Canadian coffee and doughnut giant Tim Hortons has quietly launched a UGC campaign called Every Cup Tells a Story asking users to submit content to their campaign website www.everycup.ca.

The company has created a television ad as well as a flash video for their in-store advertising asking Tim Hortons fans to submit images, videos and stories about them and their Tim Horton’s warm beverage. (more…)

Mythbusters blast YouTube Live 2008

YouTube Live 2008 took centre stage on Saturday with live music acts, but one of the most popular videos coming out of the event is a video showing Discovery Channel’s Mythbuster Adam Savage blasting his partner Jamie Hyneman with 20,000 paintballs. Hyneman is wearing a full suit of armour for the gag.

Mythbusters has made great sport busting ‘viral video myths’ on its program. You can upload your own video for the show to ‘bust’ on the program’s website.
