Facebook has cemented itself as the number one user-generated photo sharing site on the Internet. A new comScore report shows that U.S. unique visitors to the photo sharing application rose by almost 50 per cent over the last year. Internationally the application’s unique visitors rose by more than 100 per cent over the same period.
The social networks that are dedicated to photo sharing saw growth but no where near the numbers that Facebook saw in the last year. Where Facebook saw 153 million unique visitors Flickr had 67 million. Photobucket received 43 million and Picasa received 46 million.
This growth can be directly related to the popularity of Facebook. The website’s default picture sharing service has grown because of the staggering growth of the website. Another reason the photo sharing site is so popular is because of how viral the picture sharing application can be. The act of tagging and the simplicity of viewing others photos on Facebook make it very easy for people to share their photos online.
