Twitter users can earn money by letting Be A Magpie tweet from their account. But is this just another form of spam?

The new program allows users and advertisers to take advantage of the vast Twitter network. Twitter users that want to make money sign up through the Be a Magpie website. Magpie then sends magpie-tweets that carry the advertisers message through the user’s Twitter account to their followers. The user and advertiser pairing will be done based on the history of relevant keywords in the user’s tweets. For example, a user that always tweets about cars will receive a car related advertiser and so on.

Magpie lets users pick advertisers that fit their ethics and Twitter schedule. There is an option to add a customized disclaimer to let your followers know that the tweet is an advertisement.  Users can pick a schedule that ranges from one magpie-tweet every 200 tweets to one magpie-tweet for every one tweet. The more magpie-tweets the more money you make. However, Magpie warns users not to annoy their followers with to so many ads that they stop following you.

Advertisers that are interested are able to bid on key words related to their product. Once the keywords are acquired the deal will be offered to the Twitter users that have the best matching accounts. The users will then either accept the campaign or wait for something else.

Users can cash out once they reach 50 Euros through Paypal. This is the first substantial advertising strategy launched on Twitter. It will be interesting to see if it catches on. Magpie and Friends Ltd. is based in Great Britain and Germany and is not affiliated with Twitter.

Be a Magpie was temporarily down for maintenance this morning.
