NBC took a bit of criticism earlier this week when it launched its new series Community on Facebook rather than its own site, NBC.com or Hulu, a video streaming site that it also happens to be a founding partner of; however it seems that NBC had bigger ideas when it came to the social networking site.
NBC just announced that it will officially be launching Facebook Connect for all of NBC.com, with immediate rollouts planned for sites like AccessHollywood.com and NBCOlympics.com from NBC Universal.
Facebook Connect is being used by many start-up and web companies for its easy integration and instant and widespread use by millions of users. Local NBC media, as well as BravoTV have already started experimenting with the potential of an alternative login entry such as the one Facebook Connect provides.
The simple addition will allow visitors to the site the capabilities to share with friends, see what is popular, publish clips and participate in live streaming events at the click of a button. NBC.com will now feature a Facebook Connect button that appears at the top of the web page and clearly says “Log in using Facebook.” Visitors to the site will be hard pressed to miss it.
Hitting over 250 million users, Facebook has earned the reputation of acting as a massive opportunity for brands and companies. And while competitor products such as Twitter sign in and Google attempt to play catch up, Facebook Connect is obviously staking its claim as a major resource with unmatched potential.
