Pluck, a social media platform brought to you by Demand Media, the leading distributor of social media, announced today the integration of Twitter into its current platform giving participants the extended functionality of interacting with friends and family on other sites.

The announcement comes as a part of Demand Media’s social bridging initiative, a collection of capabilities enabling enterprise customer communities to establish 2-way connections with 3rd party social networking destinations. By combining the two technologies, Pluck is now effectively allowing publishers, brands and retailers to display their content and conversations on Twitter for the broader social networking community to see.

Pluck technology is already being used on over 400 digital destinations. The new integration is a move into what many social media companies are calling a collective identity among online participants. By unifying a participants profile, activities and friends across the Web, new platforms such as these allow for a greater and much broader reach.

“Our customers are among the first to understand the value of connecting their social sites to other social destinations across the Web,” said Dave Panos, executive vice president of social platforms for Demand Media. “This social bridging enables a future where our online identities, relationships and conversations will cross the Web effortlessly, resulting in a much richer and more human Web, with social structures and relationships that more closely mirror our offline lives. Organizations that practice social bridging will see significant increases in their core audience’s size, engagement and value.”

Demand Media has already integrated Facebook Connect into its strategy in December of 2008 and is now live on over 55 customer sites, which in turn drives referrals. SFGate.com, the online home of the San Francisco Chronicle, went live yesterday with Pluck’s new offering of Twitter integration. “Our goal is to create on-site social experiences that seamlessly connect with the rest of the social Web - enabling our readers to interact whenever and however with others who share their same interests,” said Kevin Skaggs, executive producer of SFGate.

Pluck’s support of Twitter offers several key features including, Invite Friends, My Latest Tweet and Tweet My Activity.
