Ireland’s weather reports just became a little more community oriented with the launch of the first of its kind user-generated SMS weather updates for the country. Go2Mobile is telling participants to release their inner meteorologist via SMS, MMS and a SmartPhone portal.
The Irish mobile software company has introduced the new localized weather reporting system that uses messages compiled by the general public. The software will allow others to benefit from knowing the weather in advance of travel.
SMSWeather will allow participants to make plans and not be disappointed when they arrive if the weather has suddenly changed or simply wasn’t the same as the location they started in. The company touts the software as benefiting people with safety, journey planning and event planning.
“An example of its use – say you were hosting a marathon in the Burren – the organizer could post the weather in the exact location as they see it that morning, and night before, so people traveling will know exactly what it is like,” explained John Ahern of Go2Mobile. “The system also allows people to send in video snapshots and photographs of weather-related items from their MMS phones.”
The system is free and easy to use. Participants only need send weather updates to 35386605506 and include SMSWEATHER in their message and the area that they are located in Ireland. On the other end, those trying to find an update on a specific area will be able to search the site for information.
The service will only cost participants the natural cost of the SMS sender’s text message through their network operator. Everyone talks about the weather – through Go2Mobiles’ SMSWeather a larger community can be reached.
