Epic Change has launched its second annual TweetsGiving: The Classroom Built from Gratitude. The 48-hour event, spanning November 24 to 26, encourages participants to express their thanks using online tools and at live events in honour of the people and things that make them grateful.
Epic Change is a nonprofit that amplifies the voices and impact of grassroots changemakers by sharing their stories in ways that raise visibility and funds to support their efforts to create hope in the world.
This year’s participants have three ways of getting involved in the 2009 TweetsGiving. They can attend a Gratitude Party, Host A House Party or Spread Gratitude On the Web. Proceeds from the events will benefit the same school and students in Tanzania from last year’s campaign - where it is needed.
Along with that, a grant was recently won from IdeaBlob through successful social media efforts in Tanzania and across the globe. Those plans involve the implementation of a technology lab at the primary school where last year’s TweetsGiving classroom was built.
Last year’s TweetsGiving raised over $10,000 to build a classroom in Arusha, Tanzania and was built over six days entirely by volunteers. The classroom was built at a school founded by Tanzanian Epic Change fellow Mama Lucy Kamptoni and now serves over 300 children near her home.
TweetsGiving 2009 is also seeking to fund new Epic Change partners and fellows in other parts of the world. Beginning in 2010 they will be looking for changemakers and social entrepreneurs like Mama Lucy who are already taking the initiative to transform their own communities and could stand to benefit from investments and an enhanced visibility to expand their efforts.
