The world’s first-ever streetcasting project broadcasting user-generated content (UGC) to the general public across Dublin city is an opportunity for buskers and street performers to have the widespread social experience with a little more immediacy.

ZozzyTV, sponsored by Vodafone Ireland is a new concept that allows its creators to broadcast three virtual busking spots that will be seen by the population of Ireland. With large screens situated at Grafton Street, Henry Street and in Temple Bar, footage will play for a total of eight weeks ending on January 9, 2010.

“We have just launched our Christmas campaign and ZozzyTV provides a different dimension for accessing existing and new customers close to the point of sale during the festive season,” said Carolan Lennon, consumer director for Vodafone Ireland.

The project, which launched November 15 was named for Dublin’s legendary street performer Zozimus. Interested participants are encouraged to visit the campaign website or use their mobile phones to register and upload their video footage for a chance to be broadcast live.

Each video will receive 30 seconds of screen time and it is estimated that around 7 million viewers will see the screens throughout the projects eight week run. The screens will also display a ticker tape that scrolls across the bottom of the screen where text messages from viewers will be shown in real-time.

“We are expecting the funniest, wackiest, heart-warming and creative videos that only the Irish public can deliver,” said Billy Brennan, managing director of ZozzyTV. “We are very fortunate that Vodafone has recognized the potential of ZozzyTV and the benefit of real interaction between viewers and our video stars.”

ZozzyTV will be giving away one of their limited edition T-shirts to the first 300 videos uploaded.
