Southern Comfort is making use of its Facebook fan page with a new user-generated content (UGC) contest that is looking for someone to head to New Orleans to act as a social media correspondent for Mardi Gras.

The Global Search for a Mardi Gras Correspondent began November 15 and will be accepting video submissions until the end of the day on December 28, 2009. Videos may be anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes in length and must explain why you are the perfect man or woman for the job.

Participants can upload their videos using a URL or they can upload their entry directly to the Mardi Gras application on the company’s Facebook page. The contest sponsor, Brown-Forman will select three semi-finalists from all of the eligible entries which will be posted online in early January.

Fans of Southern Comfort’s Facebook page will then have the opportunity to vote for their favourite of the three videos using the Mardi Gras application’s voting function which will allow each fan one vote per day of the voting period.

As a Mardi Gras correspondent for Southern Comfort the winner will be expected to upload video submissions of the Mardi Gras Trip Agenda - which will be selected by a vote among the company’s Facebook fans from a provided selection. Each days event will be selected by fans to promote maximum engagement and participation.

The grand prize winner will not only act as the social media correspondent for Southern Comfort, however they will also receive round trip airfare and four nights accommodations for themselves and a friend and a $100 USD per day stipend. If the winner can complete each of the fan chosen tasks and upload a video submission to the Trip Agenda on time they will also receive an added $5000 USD within two weeks of the completion of their trip.
