Film Fights, a community for budding filmmakers interested in improving their talents, networking and gaining experience has set forth its future contest and sixth annual Christmas fight called Lonely Christmas.
Founded in 2003 by Justin Johnson, Film Fights allows participants a chance at gaining some real hands-on experience in the film industry. Filmmakers are given a theme, a title and a time limit and are set to work to develop and create a short film that can win the favour of the community.
Once registered for the site, Film Fights will divide films into two categories. The first is the heavyweight selection, which are made up of the greatest and best quality videos. The second category is the lightweights and are the videos that are generally not at the same level as other entries or break any of the rules set out in the guidelines.
Once the deadline passes and videos have been uploaded to the website, the Film Fights community can enter the voting booth to chose their favourite video. The unique feature of the Film Fights community is that participants are encouraged to leave quality, detailed reviews.
While other sites may often get a large amount of short comments, Film Fights is looking for feedback that helps the filmmakers better their production level and learn something valuable about their craft.
“We want to give our filmmakers the best feedback you can get on the Internet,” said Johnson. “That’s the whole point: we want you guys to make movies, we want you to get better, we want you to enter in the next fight and kick everyone’s butts.”
Lonely Christmas is looking for a short film about why the holiday’s are so darn lonely. Films can be a maximum of three minutes and 30 seconds and are due by December 7, 2009.
