Best Buy is well known for its investment in social media and its willingness to make use of the two-way communication tool to better serve, interact and engage its consumers. Recent campaigns have made use of social networking sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter including its holiday application and microsite getthebestgift.ca.
“Retailers are embracing social media like never before this holiday season,” according to an AdAge article from earlier this month. “More than half are including it in their marketing strategies, up drastically from only 4% in 2007, according to a new survey out from BDO Seidman.”
The new campaign offers participants a fun way to send hints to their friends and family as to what they are hoping to receive for the holiday’s. It’s an updated version of the traditional wish list, and features a chance for visitors to win their wish.
Participants can visit the bestbuy.ca website and pick a gift they wish to receive. Next, you are asked to create a short video recording of your best reaction if you were to actually receive that gift. The microsite will create a banner ad that displays your wish and reaction, which can be sent to friends via email, Facebook and Twitter.
Once the personalized banners are completed your loved ones will be send a link that takes them to your ad and then connects them to the product page where they can purchase your holiday gift wish.
Participants to The Best Gifts get the Best Reactions campaign will automatically be entered in a draw to win the gift they wished for this holiday season.
