As American Idol prepares for its ninth straight season, the U.S. broadcasting network Fox Broadcasting Company has launched a user-generated content (UGC) promotion that invites fans to create video testimonials about the show.
The popular reality show’s website has introduced a special section called Idol Fans, especially for this promotion. Participants can upload original videos which feature a simple medium shot of you without logos, trademarks or any copyrighted material.
The promotional videos should answer questions such as, “Why is Idol the gift that keeps on giving?”, “What’s your favourite Idol moment?”, “Who’s your favourite Idol?”, and “How can the Idols win your heart?”
All of the video testimonials will be evaluated by the network for inclusion in a promotional campaign. Videos may appear on the new Idol Fans section of the show’s website or on AmericanIdol.com. Most notably, videos may be used for on-air promotional spots.
We are looking for “diverse fans who are passionate about American Idol,” said a representative from Fox Broadcasting Company’s marketing department.
The new season of American Idol kicks off with a two night premiere beginning on January 13, 2010 and January 14, 2010.
