Yesterday the Indianapolis Colts hosted the New Orleans Saints in the XLIV Super Bowl. Millions of fans around the country have been waiting to see the athletes, the plays and the entertainment, including the much anticipated 2010 Super Bowl ads. What fans won’t see this year is a banned GoDaddy.com commercial that has spurred controversy and a video contest called Think You Can Make a Better Go Daddy Commercial?

GoDaddy.com created a commercial for this years game entitled Lola. Lola depicts a retired football player that uses GoDaddy.com to begin his second career as a lingerie designer and sales person.

Bob Parsons, CEO and founder of GoDaddy.com said in an interview with Fox television that this was the least offensive commercial the company has ever created, and that CBS stated the reason for banning the ad was that it had the potential to offend some groups.

The contest challenges participants to create and develop a 15-30 second original commercial that either uses the general themes of past Go Daddy commercials or is entirely new. The company is supplying official logos for use and requires submissions be uploaded to YouTube by March 19, 2010.

Based on a public voting period winners will be announced by April 26 to decide the grand prize winner, three first prize winners and six runners-up. The grand prize winner will receive a Dell Alienware Area 51 desktop, a Sony HDR FX7 hi-def camcorder, Adobe Premiere software and a Dell Alienware TactX headset.

While Go Daddy has replaced its censored commercial with two others entitled Spa and News, the commercials both encourage viewers to visit the companies website to see the banned commercial starring Go Daddy girl and racing star Danica Patrick.
