Monitoring Plays a Hand in a Shrewd SEO Strategy

Each quarter Snoo.ws tackles a new series topic to provide our audience with insight, intelligence, examples and ideas. This month is Monitoring Month where we will cover everything from basic monitoring 101 to the top monitoring tools to monitoring’s role in your overall strategy.  Today is the last post in the Series – so thank you for checking us out, and don’t forget to look through the Archives to always read more.

So you know that monitoring or listening to the social web is vital for your marketing strategy – you must know what’s being said online about your brand, your industry, your competitors, anything affecting your business.  But how can listening help improve your SEO game?

Making the best of organic mentions:

Social media monitoring will provide you with lots of data.  You’ll know what sites your brand is being mentioned on, what forums and blogs are bringing up your name.  By taking a look at where you’re organically being discussed, you can build appropriate links and direct traffic towards existing sites.  Using what’s already out there to help load up your own arsenal of routes is working smarter, not harder.  If there are sites already praising your name, use that to your advantage.

Keyword and term aggregation:

Via monitoring you’ll come to know the keywords, buzz words, and specific terms consistently associated with your brand.  Having this knowledge at your disposal can really help you create better links.  Using the right keywords can help you speak the same language as your consumer.  Once you’re plugged into the correct vocabulary, more potential customers will gain access to your online entities – just by speaking in the same terms, using the same words in searches.

Competitor Monitoring:

Know where your competitors are being chatted up.  If you know what sites competing companies are talked about on, you can swoop in and build similar links to help gain some footing for your own brand in that market.  You can also cleverly build links that other brands may not have thought of yet – by better knowing the playing field (which is what monitoring does – it educates us to what’s happening all over the Internet) you can play the game smarter.  You can be there first, be more creative, you can be the brand that uses the good keywords and makes strong links before others do, because you’re listening!

As well as knowing where your competitors are being mentioned, you can also gain insight about the keywords associated with other brands in your same niche.  Again, it’s an opportunity to get a leg up.  You can take knowledge that’s accumulating for everyone in your market and use it for your brand’s best advantage.

Thinking in terms of SEO is a must. SEO is one of the many facets that today’s marketer has to keep in focus online. Now with all of the monitoring insight that’s been revealed during the Snoo.ws Series, Monitoring Month, you can start to relate all aspects of your marketing scheme back to the immeasurable benefits that come from listening to the social web.
