Members of the ICUC Team have been globe trotting recently! Giving talks about the pillars of social strategy, educating on social media issues and management, meeting new friends and making new contacts – ICUC has been moving and shaking!
Keith Bilous was in awesome Zurich last week; Jan Reischek and Rob Baral spent this past weekend in lovely Victoria, BC. I was able to catch up with everyone yesterday and get the rundown on their trips.
Social Media Hub, Zurich:
Last week Keith spoke at Social Hub Zurich on The 3 Ms of Social Strategy. One of the attendees posted a really nice blog entry about the networking and social media event (use your browser to translate to English).
Social Hub Zurich is a monthly social media networking and learning event, always focused on one guest speaker and giving attendees plenty of networking time. For the month of June, Keith was personally invited to come speak by the event’s host: Julian Schweizer.
Now that Keith is back in Canada, I caught up with him for a brief chat about the event. He told me that he had an amazing time in Zurich, a “truly amazing city.” Julian was a “fantastic, wonderful host,” and Keith told me he had a great time seeing Zurich for the first time, with Julian as the perfect guide.
Social Hub was held in a really interesting venue: what looks like a cafe from the outside, reveals itself inside to be this underground cave. “It’s underneath the train line,” Keith explained. The cavernous speaking area was packed as our CEO presented in English. He said the attendees were very engaged, with most of the post-talk questions on crisis management.
As I was wrapping up my call with Keith he said, “I loved Zurich, I loved meeting so many people.” The event truly enabled Keith to make a lot of great contacts, he said: “I’m really looking forward to the relationships made on this trip, keeping in touch with everyone, and I would love to go back to Zurich someday.”
Social Media Camp, Victoria:
Jan Reischek, ICUC’s VP, Client Services and Rob Baral, our Manager of Business Development recently spent the weekend in Victoria, British Columbia at Canada’s Social Media Camp. Last month, we wrote up the event and the fact that Jan would be speaking here on Snoo.ws.
Jan gave a great talk at one of the Saturday afternoon Power Sessions about The 3 Ms of Social Strategy (Moderation, Monitoring, and Management). Both Jan and Rob had fun last weekend, and raved about how gorgeous Victoria is and how great the service at their hotel, the Magnolia, was.
Jan told me that the key messages she took away regarding social media were “make it personal, be authentic, and be yourself.” Solid advice! Jan’s discussions with attendees from last year uncovered the Power Sessions to be a great addition to the 2012 schedule.
Both Jan and Rob thought the keynotes were interesting – Jan particularly commented on Erica Ehm’s engaging talk about Twitter conduct and etiquette.
Rob mentioned that “Chris Brogan was a fantastic presenter, and incredibly knowledgeable on the topic.” He followed up that statement by saying the conference, as a whole, was interesting that the weekend went pretty well.
