This month Snoo.ws is stoked to feature a multi-tasking Mom who’s a Moderation Specialist for ICUC. Amber Miller has been with ICUC for exactly two years, since December 2010. Her love of social media and producing great work for our clients drives her to work hard and to be a great Mod. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two children; but don’t be fooled – Amber is far more than a small-time Mom. This Mod with the mostest is able to wear many hats. Check out our conversation:
Snoo.ws: You’re a Moderation Specialist for ICUC – what’s your favorite part of being a Mod?
Amber: I really enjoy the interaction I get with the clients more than anything. When they have requests and I fulfill them to their specifications, over time we develop a friendly rapport and it makes moderating their page feel more personal. It’s a good feeling to get positive feedback as well, which I have received a lot of over the past two years of moderating. I would be lying if I didn’t admit to enjoying the shenanigans I have encountered as a mod, too. Moderation can be very entertaining.
Snoo.ws: What’s a challenge that you’ve learned to overcome while being a Mod?
Amber: I have a habit of being a complete perfectionist, and I have a hard time asking for help sometimes. I have always preferred to do things myself, and it took me a while to realize that in order to accomplish my job, sometimes it takes the whole team. Once I got over that, I was a much better mod and teammate.
Snoo.ws: What’s your favorite social media platform?
Amber: It’s a toss-up for me, honestly. Most of the moderating I do is on Facebook, so I’m more familiar with it, but Twitter interactions are a lot different. I like the character limit- you won’t see a novel-length complaint on Twitter about something trivial.
Snoo.ws: Do you have a favorite meme, or viral video?
Amber: I adore memes and viral videos. Currently I’m pretty fond of the grumpy cat, and I have a 1 year old who is fascinated with Gangnam Style, so we watch that every day. My Daughter tries to act like she doesn’t like it, but she watches it every time I put it on for my son, start to finish.
Snoo.ws: What’s one of the more rewarding experiences you’ve had as a Mod?
Amber: We recently just finished a promotion with a client that was HUGE. It was actually in the news a couple of times. It was stressful, challenging, and intense, but with the help of my team and some people who weren’t on my team but happy to help, we did a great job. The client was extremely pleased, and one of the client contacts emailed our team a wonderful note about how awesome he thought we did. Things like that remind me that even though it can be really hectic and I have to choose a dirty diaper over lunch on those days, it will pay off. I have never received the level of positive feedback I get here, anywhere else.
Snoo.ws: What do you like to do offline?
Amber: In my freetime I like to be goofy and roughhouse with my kids. I shut the computer off when shift ends and we play until dinner, then after we play some more. Once they’re in bed I like to catch up on my shows, work out, and occasionally knit.
Snoo.ws: If you won the $550 Million Power Ball – what would be some things you’d do right away?
Amber: First thing I would do is get a house with a 2nd bathroom. I think a maid would be in order, too. Probably live-in, these kids are messy. I love ICUC but I’d probably quit and become the trophy Wife I always envisioned myself as. I’d give my Parents, my Husband’s Parents and our Siblings enough that they could have their dream homes but probably solar paneling so they could afford their electricity bills, too. I’d put some towards charity, and some to trust funds for my kids.
What an awesome interview, I love the insight from a Moderator’s point of view. Thanks to Amber for helping bring ICUC to success these past two years and for taking the time to chat with me. ICUC co-workers: do you know someone on the ICUC Team who would make an interesting Inside Scoop Candidate? Email me, rosed@icucmoderation.com and let me know!
