Hi! I’m Teri Kojetin and you may have seen me around more than usual this year. Since I’ve become a regular voice here on Snoos.ws, I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself. I’ve been contributing to Snoos.ws with posts since the summer of last year. Earlier this month I was promoted to Marketing Coordinator at ICUC and I’d like to share more about my journey and myself.
I grew up in rural southeastern Minnesota in the beautiful bluff country and national hardwood forest area. Since I was raised in the country I have a deep love and appreciation for nature and wildlife. My five siblings and I were all blessed with a creative genes: bluegrass music for the boys, writing and art for all of us.
I went to a small college in Minneapolis, MN, Bethany College of Missions, where I met and married my husband, Doug. After graduating we went out under Bethany as missionaries to Mexico to serve at a missions institute for Mexicans who wanted to be missionaries. Our two children were born there and we lived happily for 15 years in the semi-dessert high plains of Matehuala. Regretfully we had to leave 15 years ago but I’ve retained fluency in the language and an abiding love for the people and culture of Mexico.
Back in the U.S., we returned to Minnesota where I took what I could find for work: daycare, credit analysis, administrative assistant, receptionist…but they never gave me the satisfaction that mission life had. 13 years after landing back in Minnesota I got a job as a social media and news moderator with ICUC. My daughter, Rachael, also works here as a moderator. At the same time I ran my brother’s eBook conversion business.
The more I worked with ICUC and the social media aspect of the Ebook Editor, the more I realized I had a passion for social media. I enjoyed it personally and for business. My brother encouraged me to start volunteering for the Marketing & Social Media department at ICUC. I approached Rose Duggan, Marketing & Social Media Manager, and started writing!
When I took the risk to work from home it was a little scary at first with two part-time jobs. But it was freeing for me and as I persisted in moving toward working more in what I was passionate about, the doors opened. Persistence and hard work really do pay off! I was promoted months earlier than I thought would have been possible and happy to now be serving ICUC and brands as Marketing Coordinator.
All this to say, though the journey has been long to this point in my life and career, I am thrilled to be a voice for ICUC and an advocate for brands using social media. I feel that social media has enabled us to connect in a real-time way that before took lots of time via mail. I love social media for my personal life as I keep up with family friends, express myself and explore. And for work, social media opens up a whole new world of learning, collaboration, and sharing new ideas.
My children are young adults now and in 2011 I was blessed with my first granddaughter. My husband and I love hiking, we geo-cache, and are involved in our church and its food shelf. In my spare time (which I really need more of!) I like reading, writing, scrapbooking, bird watching, hiking, drawing, knitting and cooking. I have two personal blogs: Owly Insights and MNChickadee’s Poetry. I’m also a monthly contributor for social media blog, Bad Rhino Rumblings. and continue to direct social media for Ebook Editor. My life is full!
So, now you’ve met me! Remember I’m here to serve and provide you with news that will help you and your business. Feel free to chat with me, comment on posts, or share ideas. You can email me at terik@icucmoderation.com or tweet my personal account @TeriMKojetin. I also manage ICUC’s social media accounts so please connect with us on Facebook or on Twitter @ICUC.
