Human or Robotic: Which Describes Your Brand?

Brand perception is important when your business communicates with people. If they see your brand as robotic and automated they won’t connect emotionally, which means the less likely they will be to follow you. But if you make the effort to show your brand personality and interact as a human, you will strike a chord in people that will engage them and cause them to become fans and customers. People want these emotional connections. It’s what they use social media for. Developing relationships with people will humanize your brand.

There are many ways your brand can come across as human. Here are five of what we consider to be the most important.

1. Know who your brand is.
Your brand has a personality. This is expressed through the way you put yourself out there for all to see. It comes across in images, your mission statement, your focus and what you say and do. It’s important to keep this in mind as you communicate and grow relationships.

2. Look at things from a human perspective.
Remember that you are addressing human beings. They respond to content that engages and entertains. Let them see that you are human too. Treat them with respect and with value. Be honest, thoughtful, and show interest in them. Encourage them to share their opinions and images.

3. Focus on relationships.
Social media users want to have a relationship with you. Not only that, they are the backbone of your brand. You don’t have anything without the people who follow you and buy from you. Nurture those relationships and they will stick with you and be advocates for your brand.

4. Engage with your audience.
Provide content that is not only of value and interest, but is engaging as well. The tone of voice you write with is just as important as what you share. It should cause your readers to form an emotional connection with your brand.

5. Be available to your social community.
When users respond to content on your company page or social media sites, they want to know you’re listening and will respond back to them. This meets their need for relationship and will develop brand loyalty in them. It keeps them coming back for more.

Developing relationships with people who show interest in your brand, results in more followers. You will be perceived as approachable and that will increase traffic to your site. As you create an engaging social media presence you will develop an online community that can only bring benefits to your brand. So don’t be afraid to drop the robotic motions and show your human side.
