CNN gets more social with new Facebook integrations

This past week CNN launched site-wide integration of Facebook Connect and social plugins across CNN.com and CNNMoney.com to enable its online audience to recommend, share and comment on articles, videos, blogs and iReports.

CNN.com is among the world leaders in online news and information delivery and is rated the number one destination for online and wireless news according to Nielsen. CNN.com makes UGC more prominent in site revamp

CNN.com launched the newly revamped website this past Monday and has elevated the role of community content to a much more prominent position. The media organization’s citizen journalism news gathering, iReport has been made a regular section of the site.

iReport was established three years ago and has been important to CNN in terms of gathering a public perspective on breaking news and storytelling, especially as it is happening. Most notably iReport became a valuable source during the post-election unrest in Iran. (more…)

Oprah’s Book Club gets interactive

In a first-time effort to develop an interactive user-friendly live event of the famous talk show host and humanitarian Oprah Winfrey is joining forces with CNN.com and Facebook to present an Oprah’s Book Club interactive web event.

The special event, which is set to take place on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 9pm ET/6pm PT, will be streamed live and simultaneously from CNN.com’s video player on both Oprah.com and CNN.com and will make use of Facebook Connect to allow participants to interact while viewing the webcast. (more…)
