NBC.com unleashes Facebook Connect login potential

More and more readers are talking about the decline of print media, and its growing competition on the web.

Publications like The Rocky Mountain News and The Seattle Post-Intelligencer have disappeared, and even the great Canwest media empire is walking a line dangerously close to bankruptcy. YouTube set to divide (itself) and conquer

A redesign of YouTube that will take advantage of its monetizing potential is in the works. ClickZ reported that the new layout will clearly separate user-generated content (UGC) from premium content.

The reason for the change is directly related to the inability of YouTube to post dramatic profits despite a staggering amount of traffic on the website. YouTube is ranked the number one online video viewing website with one million unique visitors and five billion videos viewed per month. (more…)

HULU jumps to number four

Hulu, still known as the new online vid kid in town, moved up another two spots and is now ranked fourth in most online video views in the U.S.

According to ComScore the total views of online videos was down 12 per cent in the month of February. The company attributes this to, among other factors, February being a shorter month. During this downturn Hulu was still able to jump to 34.7 million unique visitors in February, a 42 per cent growth. (more…)

YouTube drawing 100 million+ per month

YouTube quietly moved past a milestone in January, 2009 by surpassing 100 million unique visitors per month in the U.S. This is the first time that a user-generated content (UGC) video sharing website has reached that mark.

eMarketer reported the numbers supplied by comScore last week that show YouTube the runaway leader in U.S. online video viewership. Second was Fox Interactive Media at 62 million unique visitors and Yahoo! was third with just over 40 million unique visitors. (more…)

Hulu profits with licensed content model

Hulu has gotten YouTube to take note after LiveRail released the “State of the Industry Report” report announcing that Hulu sold out its advertising inventory in the third quarter of last year. The report showed that Hulu, an online video site that can be viewed only in the U.S., is running a far more profitable operation in comparison to their larger, Google-owned rival YouTube. Estimates have Hulu earning US$90 million in its first year. (more…)
