ChannelOne embracing teens as citizen journalists

Channel One, the popular news and public affairs content provider for teens, has relaunched its website offering its visitors the opportunity to generate their own content.

The new site, at www.channelone.com, includes several new user-generated content elements that embrace citizen journalism for the students. They can now upload their own stories, comment on others and become more direct participants in current events and the debates surrounding them. (more…)

New MyCineplex launches with UGC community

Cineplex, Canada’s largest motion picture exhibitor, has relaunched its website with a significant user-generated content upgrade.

Launched this fall, My.Cineplex.com enables users to post their own videos, photos and text, as well as comment on movies, stories, movie reviews and just about anything else.

The new membership-based site will build a social community around the movies. This is a natural extension for Cineplex, especially with its large audience of teens and young adults. (more…)

Tell the world: are you a PC?

Microsoft’s latest I’m a PC advertising campaign is using both a major traditional ad spend and a big UGC component to reposition the Windows brand against rival Apple. The major theme of the campaign is that millions of people around the world from all walks of life use PCs and Microsoft wants to showcase them.

Anyone can submit their own I’m a PC video on the campaign website. Some of the submissions will be included in online ads, on the website and even on a big screen in Times Square. (more…)

UGC rising force on the Web

With the rise of various social networking and sharing sites such as Facebook, YouTube and MySpace, user-generated content has been increasing in volume and importance for some time, especially in terms of marketing and technological development.

In April, eMarketer.com projected the number of UGC creations in the United States to rise from 77 million in 2007 to 108 million in 2012. (more…)
