Can you get a bigger buzz than Go Daddy?

Yesterday the Indianapolis Colts hosted the New Orleans Saints in the XLIV Super Bowl. Millions of fans around the country have been waiting to see the athletes, the plays and the entertainment, including the much anticipated 2010 Super Bowl ads. What fans won’t see this year is a banned GoDaddy.com commercial that has spurred controversy and a video contest called Think You Can Make a Better Go Daddy Commercial? (more…)

Share a virtual Coke for charity

Coca Cola Company is tying a recent social media charity promotion to the beverage giants upcoming Super Bowl ads. The program will be a first of its kind and an experiment in capitalizing on major TV events.

Earlier this week during a press event at the Dunlevy Milbank Boys & Girls Club in Harlem, Coca Cola announced plans to donate up to $500,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of America with half of the money coming through a Facebook application. (more…)

Pepsi drops Super Bowl ads for social media

Pepsi, one of the biggest advertisers of the Super Bowl on CBS will be pulling out ending its 23 year run and one of the rare opportunities that brands have to reach such a wide audience. In its place the soft drink maker will be focusing its efforts on a large-scale social media movement. (more…)

Doritos offers 5 million for Super Bowl XLIV ads

Doritos has upped the ante on its 2010 Crash the Super Bowl user-generated content (UGC) campaign. Last year saw Joe and Dave Herbert win one million dollars with their commercial titled, Free Doritos or what many online viewers were calling the Crystal Ball commercial.

Beginning on September 21, participants will be able to submit their video entries to the contest website. Ideas can be action packed or funny as the creative is entirely your own. The commercial should obviously feature the Doritos brand and if selected could be aired on national television.

Six finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges. Their submissions will be selected for scoring the highest in three areas; originality and creativity, adherence to the creative assignment and overall appeal. Those six will each win $25,000. Visitors will then vote for the top three commercials to air as a Doritos brand commercial during Super Bowl XLIV. (more…)

Make your way into Pro Football Hall of Fame

For the fifth year in a row Canon will be offering its Shoot like a Pro contest, where amateur fans can enter a random draw for a chance to shoot home-game warm-ups from the sidelines. This year the photography manufacturer will also be rolling out a secondary promotion to engage its younger fans in a user-generated content (UGC) contest. (more…)

Frito-Lay and the NFL celebrate fan enthuasiasm

Frito-Lay and the National Football League have teamed up for the new user-generated content (UGC) campaign Calling All Families to determine who is the NFL’s most fanatical family.

The promotion is straight forward. Participants are encouraged to submit a photo of themselves, their families or friends decked out and ready to watch the big game. Entrants can be wearing their favourite NFL gear or demonstrating their best game faces. (more…)
