RIM engages consumers to lessen app confusion

The Canadian manufacturer, designer and marketer for wireless devices and solutions for the worldwide mobile communications, Research In Motion (RIM), is launching a social networking site today aimed at communicating with consumers regarding smart phone applications.

Blackberry’s App World store may not get the same attention that Apple’s App Store gets, as the store is a little harder to navigate and as many tech savvy experts have noted, confusion surrounding some of the applications has been identified. (more…)

Microsoft PSA spoofs - joining the browser boom

Microsoft has just launched a user-generated content (UGC) contest to beef up its promotional campaign for Internet Explorer 8 with Create Your Own PSA. Hold social media users accountable

Social networking sites have opened people up to a whole new kind of socializing online. We can share photos and videos, write comments or reviews and generally communicate in real-time with friends or acquaintances. More recently, it has opened the average person up to more instant communication with companies and brands, which has led to the razing of some privacy walls in favour of a more open concept advertising free-for-all. Small business, big gains off Twitter accounts

While we might still be unsure of how to best measure the ROI of having a Twitter account and paying someone to “tweet” for your business several times a day, the truth is - it works.

Naked Pizza, a healthful pizza shop based in New Orleans hoping to go national, has recently been using the microblogging site as a marketing tool and began tracking its sales from Twitter. Through phone and drop-in, every order was measured by where it came from, which told restaurant co-founder Jeff Leach that 15 per cent of sales on April 23, 2009 were brought in due to an exclusive-to-Twitter promotion that day. UGC continues to transform gaming industry

A few presentations have got tongues wagging at this year’s TechCrunch50 conference in San Francisco, but the snoo.ws was particularly enthused about one from Minor Studios that showed UGC has definitely arrived in the gaming sphere.

They aren’t alone. Electronic Arts’ Spore has led to more than 10 million new objects over the past weekend, according to this report in Information Week.  (more…)
