Find out how much Klout your influencers really have

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Virgin America has partnered with Klout, an analytic service that tracks users’ influence on Twitter in order to extend free flights to its top influencers in the Toronto, Canada region.

Klout’s mission is to be the standard for influence and believes that every individual who creates content has influence. The service accurately measures that influence and provides context around who a person influences and the specific topics they are most influential on. (more…)

Does it make $ense to work with a moderation partner?

Friday, June 4th, 2010

This article has been re-posted from www.dustin2to.com.

There are many places an agency can bring in partner solutions to increase margins yet outsourced UGC moderation is still a relatively new and unknown option. Agencies, like every other company, are constantly looking to be more profitable, or simply stay profitable, and a content moderation partner can open the door to new revenue (or increased productivity, and this should mean more revenue). This article has been re-posted from www.dustin2to.com.

A conversation I had today got me thinking about what online community managers need to keep in mind when developing community guidelines. There’s the obvious stuff - what is allowed and what isn’t - but there are some other aspects of the community guidelines document outside of the actual rules that must be considered. (more…)

The social default of Facebook’s; social by default

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

We have all come to expect that every few weeks Facebook changes its privacy settings or adds a new feature that requires you to read a new portion to its ever-growing terms of service document. What you might not have known is that Facebook’s default is social.

While this concept may have stopped some dead in their tracks at yesterday afternoon’s mesh conference panel on Privacy in the Age of Facebook - I felt like the smartest person in the room. It’s a social networking site for goodness sakes.

The debate flared, and I even heard a completely uncalled for Manitoba joke (the butt of all Canada jokes, how original), regarding the complexity surrounding an ever-changing platform with a CEO who believes 100 per cent in sharing. (more…)

Joseph Menn talks about the cyber-war at #mesh10

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

There is much more to be concerned about online these days than cyber-bullying and identity theft according to Mesh Conference speaker Joseph Menn.

Details of two hackers who risked their lives to fight the seemingly endless list of bot nets, which are sucking information and causing economic concern around the world. Menn highlighted four major concerns and what precautions users can take to protect themselves.

For more information, I hear the book is on sale on Amazon.com - and readers can expect a more detailed post from Snoo.ws, coming soon.

Participatory documentary stems from Star Wars debate

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

The People vs. George Lucas is a new documentary that debuted at SXSW that examined the love/hate relationship between Lucas and his many Star Wars followers. The film’s creation relied upon originally shot material as much as it did on user-generated footage.

The film is a no-holds-barred, uncensored yet balanced cultural examination of the obsession for a man and a universe that many say defined an entire generation. The participatory documentary is filled with interviews, stop-motion and 3D animation, Super 8 action figure films, puppet rants and many other surprises. (more…)
