Volvo hopes to drive moms through their tweens

Volvo, the Swedish car maker launched a social media contest today that plays off its product placement deal with Summit Entertainment, in which Twilight star Edward Cullen drives the new crossover vehicle.

“Volvo is central to Edward’s character in the Twilight saga,” said Doug Speck, president and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, in a statement. (more…)

Social media: Is it work or play?

With an increased focus on social networking tools moving into the business mainstream it might be shocking to note that some communicators, and according to Advertising Age many agencies, are not exactly practicing what they preach when it comes to brand building.

With the advent of vanity URL’s more companies are hopping on the social media bandwagon to hold onto a name and prevent misconception regarding their brand or messaging. Unfortunately, some companies are putting the cart before the horse, as they secure the name but they are wholly unprepared for the work or commitment that goes into it. (more…)
